Al-Jazeera: World Cup Broadcasts Were Being Jammed from Jordan

Everyone was suffering and trashing Al-Jazeera for their World Cup broadcasts, and nobody really believed it was a deliberate “sabotage”, as Al-Jazeera announced during the South Africa World Cup. And now, the truth kind of revealed by some secret documents have been shown up.

Al-Jazeera confirmed that its World Cup broadcasts from South Africa had been jammed from Jordan. The Guardian newspaper had laid hands on “Secret documents” traced the jamming of the World Cup final on 11 July to a location near as-Salt, north-west of the Jordanian capital, Amman:

Jamming of the games took place on eight occasions on the Nilesat and Arabsat satellites, spoiling viewing for audiences across the Middle East and north Africa.

Al-Jazeera said:

Numerous matches had been spoiled from Jordan. The World Cup is meant to be a time when people from the region can come together to celebrate, and this action targeted al-Jazeera and was intentionally designed to deprive millions of fans … from enjoying this global event.

We would continue to take every means available to hold accountable those parties and individuals responsible for these actions in order to uphold its rights and protect its audience from such acts.

A statement from the prime minister’s office in Amman described as “absolutely baseless and unacceptable” suggestions that the government was behind the illegal jamming.

The Oranje were a tough opponent and definitely not an easy one,  but only the matadors can do that, only the Matadors can beat the Oranje undefeated record for the last 2 years!
