PlayStation 2 Finally Launched in Brazil!

According to Engadget PlayStation 2 finally reached Brazil markets shelves officially.

“You read that right. Sony’s PlayStation 2, which the great majority of the world has been enjoying since 2000, is just now officially touching ground in Brazil. We’re pretty sure it’s been making its way into the country for many years by not-so-official means, but if you’ve gone the legit route, last-generation’s game console king can be yours for just 799 Brazilian Real, which we’re sad to say translates to about $461 in US currency. Yeah, we’re expecting this to just fly off the shelves.”



Sony Officially Announce Slim PlayStation 3

After months of rumors and speculation, the company finally made official news of a brand new version of itsPlayStation 3 console during a game convention in Germany on Tuesday. Called the “PlayStation Slim,” the new system is due to release in North America and Europe on September 1 for $299 and €299, respectively. The price cut is immediate, however, meaning the soon-to-be-replaced 80 GB PlayStation 3 currently on store shelves is now only $299 as well.

Touting the same features and functionality of the current console, the Slim is true to its name, coming in at 33% smaller and 36% lighter. It’s also greener, using 34% less power. But while its chassis has shrunk, its trunk space has grown with a new 120 GB hard drive.

Sony introduces the Party-Shot IPT-DS1, an innovative camera dock that serves as an personal photographer that automatically takes photos for you. Designed for the new TX1 and WX1, the Party-shot works with the cameras’ Face Detection and Smile Shutter technologies to take photos automatically.

 Sony Party-Shot pans 360 degrees and tilts 24 degrees, automatically detects faces, adjusts composition and takes photos for you. It’s Intelligent composition uses the rule of thirds to compose great shots and motion detection seeks out movement to take the photo at the right moment. It captures photos for up to 11 hours with two AA batteries, or you can use an AC adapter.

Sony Party-Shot IPT-DS1 camera dock will be released in September for $150.



Sony Preparing 2TB Memory Stick

Considering SD cards are slowly trudging up to 64GB, it’s pretty impressive to hear good old Sony’s getting ready to drop a 2TB Memory Stick XC. The XC series will have the same form factors as Sony’s current PRO series, also featuring support for MagicGate content protection technology as well as Access Control function, currently available in the PRO series.

Currently at $610 on eBay, this Sony PlayStation was hand-signed by none other than the late “King of Pop” himself, Michael Jackson. Auction page. Here’s how the seller obtained it:

..won it on the “Consumer Electronics” Unlimited Exhibition in Berlin on 04.09.1997 in a Players Contest. The autograph was signed by Michael during one of his last tourneys after playing a few games in his Room (at the Hotel).
